Sikinos, a little island between Ios and Folegandros, is the ideal choice for quiet holidays to relieve yourself of the anxieties and cares of tiring daily life. It is an authentic Cycladic landscape, with terraces of dry crops, dry-stone walls, many chapels and, of course, lovely beaches with their blue-green waters.
Alopronia is the island’s picturesque port, with its white houses laid out amphitheatrically around the sandy shore. Just 3.5 km NW is the legendary Hora of Sikinos, with its two communities, the older Kastro and the newer Horio. You start out from here to explore the rest of the island, preferably on foot. Walk along the well-kept paths and enjoy the endless beauty of the island.
Discover the Monastery of the Zoodochou Pigi (Life-Giving Font), a monastery on a fortified site with superb sunsets, the magnificent Mavri Spilia (Black Cave) in the north part of the island, the monastery group of the Episkopi (Bishopric) and the chapel of Agia Marina at the top of a hill, with an incredible view of the surrounding region.
When leaving, be sure to take with you as a souvenir of this magic place, some of its delicious thyme honey, pasteli and meletinia, local cheeses and capers.
